Jill Scott Reveals An Aretha Franklin Lesson Learned When The Queen Of Soul Sent Her To Get Hot Dogs [VIDEO]

The one thing about life is that you can turn lemons into lemonade and the thing that was made to break you can make you.  Life is truly about what you do with lessons learned.  Grammy award winning singer Jill Scott recently revealed a life lesson when she first met her idol the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin, and Aretha made her feel like a regular ole natural woman when instead of saying pleased to meet you said, go get me “two hot dogs with cooked onions and mustard,”

It’s a story that almost sounds like when Puffy sent members of the group Da Band to walk from Manhattan to Junior’s Cheesecake in Brooklyn during Season 2 of MTV’s Making the Band.

During a recent appearance on NPR’s “Fresh Air,” Jill Scott shared a memorable moment when Jilly From Philly was at the height of her career when she first met Aretha Franklin.  According to Jill Scott after introducing herself to the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin simply responded,  “‘Go to the corner and get me two hot dogs with cooked onions and mustard.’  According to Jill Scott she went and got those hot dogs saying “I don’t even think she ate them,”.

Many people would have felt some kind of way about that interaction but Jill Scott took a couple of things from that experience with Aretha Franklin.

“I would, one, say be nicer to people,” … “Two, you gotta earn your stripes.”
