J Cole and Jay-Z Standing In The Gap For Lil Durk By Writing Letters To A Federal Judge Urging His Release

Chicago native rapper Lil Durk was reportedly arrested in a murder-for-hire plot.  Several members of the Chicago-based OTF crew, which Lil Durk allegedly has ties , were charged with the slaying of rapper Quando Rondo’s cousin. Lil Durk has been in federal custody since his arrest in October 2024 and has pleaded not guilty to all charges.  Now Hip Hop legends, J. Cole and Jay-Z are standing in the gap for Lil Durk by writing letters to a federal judge urging Lil Durk’ release.

Rapper J. Cole in the letter addressed to Judge Michael W. Fitzgerald, J. Cole wrote about his relationship with Durk, whom he considers part of hip-hop’s younger generation.

“Durk Banks is an artist who is in the hip hop generation that came directly after mine. My little brothers,”

Jay-Z reportedly submitted an October 12 letter describing Durk as a respectful, disciplined artist who has used his success to create opportunities for young musicians from his community.

“Durk was signing young artists from his community to recording contracts and giving them a real path into a legitimate industry,”

Lil Durk, who won’t see a court room again until August of 2027,  legal team is offering future music earnings and other assets as bond security, with Sony Music Entertainment pledging up to $1 million. Prosecutors, however, oppose his release.
