These proms are getting way out of hand all in the name of doing it for the gram. A Markham Park District executive director has gotten herself in trouble after last weekend when she hired a helicopter for her daughter’s prom send-off, which landed in a public park without proper authorization, and come to find out she used the taxpayers credit card for it.
What was done in the dark came to light when The Markham Park District executive director, Quintina Brown, hired a helicopter for her daughter’s prom send-off, which then landed in a public park without authorization. Kelly Krauchun, a lawyer representing the city of Markham, said when a police officer pulled up to Roesner Park on May 8, the city had no clue a helicopter was landing right behind a basketball court where children play.
In a now lawsuit from the city claims Quintina Brown created the contract with the helicopter company under the Markham Park District. It’s unclear if the park district funds were used to pay for the helicopter, but the Markham city attorney says the city’s zoning ordinance prohibits this kind of situation, especially when proper security was not in place. The chopper’s pilot said Brown paid his company, Summers Chicago Helicopter, $800 for a prom shoot and short tour. According to court documents, the contract shows the park district as the client and the payee.
