A family and community is soliciting prayers and answers after Idaho police shot and critically injured a 17 year old autistic boy seconds after exiting their patrol cars.
Idaho police officers opened fire from behind a chain-link fence just seconds after exiting their patrol cars and critically wounded a teenage boy named Victor Perez described by his family as nonverbal, autistic and intellectually disabled as he stepped toward them with a knife, video from a witness shows.
Someone called 911 Saturday for an alleged domestic dispute saying that someone was drunk.
“He seems pretty drunk,” “He’s just running at them with a knife and then falling over. I think he just stabbed himself, actually.” “He looks like he fell on the ground and kind of passed out,”
When police arrived four officers ran to the fence, three pulling out handguns and another pointing what appeared to be a shotgun. They ordered Victor Perez to drop the knife, Perez stood up and began taking steps toward them with the knife in his hand, then officers shot repeatedly.
17-year-old Victor Perez remains hospitalized, and has had to have his leg amputated. According to the family, doctors said Perez will have permanent brain damage.
