Former NYC News Anchor Wins Over $2Mil Lawsuit Against The Station After Saying She Was Worked Like A Slave On A Plantation [VIDEO]

Former PIX11 news anchor Ojinika “Oji” Obiekwe has made a come up in the sum of over $2 million by winning a lawsuit against them after saying she was worked like a slave on a plantation in comparison to white counter parts.

Ojinika “Oji” Obiekwe, who worked for the station for 22 years, claimed in a lawsuit that she was fired in 2023 after speaking out about alleged racial and gender discrimination in the newsroom.  Obiekwe alleged that after becoming the station’s entertainment anchor in 2017, she was forced to take on the workload of multiple employees while her white male peers at sister stations had fewer responsibilities and more resources.  Obiekwe compared her working conditions to “slavery” and “working on a plantation,” even saying, “All that’s left for me to do at this point is pick cotton.”

A judge agreed with Ojinika “Oji” Obiekwe, and ordered WPIX/Channel 11 to pay her $1,137,000 in compensatory damages for pain, suffering, and emotional distress, along with $1,280,000 in punitive damages.
