Former Illinois Sheriff’s Deputy Sean Grayson Convicted Of 2nd Degree Murder In Shooting Death Of Sonya Massey [VIDEO]

Back in 2024 Sonya Massey of Illinois called police because she that someone was lurking around her house, and she was afraid for her safety, only for the ones that are paid to protect and serve ended up killing her.  Two Sangamon County sheriff’s deputies who responded to Massey’s house after midnight on July 6 after Massey called 911 to report a possible “prowler” at her home in Springfield.  The sheriff who was in Sonya Massey’s home, gave 36 year old black woman permission to turn off a pot of boiling water on her stove.  The sheriff took a step back from her turning the pot off, then he pulled out his gun shooting Sonya Massey in the face killing her.  That now former Illinois Sheriff Deputy has been convicted in the shooting death of Sonya Massey.

Sean Grayson has been convicted of second-degree murder in the shooting death of Sonya Massey.  Grayson was charged with first-degree murder, but jury instructions included the option to convict him of the lesser charge of second-degree murder.  Grayson faces four to 20 years in prison for second-degree murder. Under state law, he would most likely be eligible to get day-for-day credit for good behavior in prison, meaning he could end up serving only half his sentence.
