Florida Surgeon General Dr. Joseph Ladapo, appointed by Governor Ron DeSantis in 2021, has become a prominent critic of federal vaccine guidance, consistently questioning the safety and necessity of MRNA COVID-19 vaccines and pushing to eliminate routine vaccine mandates in Florida.
During a recent press conference, Dr. Ladapo compared vaccine mandates to slavery, saying they “drip with slavery,” and questioned who has the right to tell anyone what to put in their body, going on to say that vaccines are personal freedom issue.
“Who am I, or anyone else, to tell you what you should put in your body?”
Republicans advanced a bill in the Florida legislature this week to weaken vaccine protections for children, but it fell well short of state surgeon general Joseph Ladapo’s promise made last year to end immunization mandates.
