We are into day 27 of the Government shutdown, what is being reported as the longest in U.S. history. As we have heard that many government employees as well as people that are paid with federal funds, many missed their first paycheck this past Friday. Some are being made to work without a paycheck with some leaving their post to deliver DoorDash to keep food on their table. With November 1st approaching if the government is still shutdown so will many Americans SNAP benefits. The Trump administration has rejected the idea of using roughly $5 billion in contingency funds to keep food aid flowing into November amid the government shutdown, according to a Department of Agriculture memo that surfaced Friday. States temporarily covering the cost of benefits next month will not be reimbursed.
Churches have been raising funds to feed the soon to be hungry and now reportedly DoorDash will be standing in the gap of these families with 100 thousand free meals.
According to DoorDash’s website:
No one should go hungry—DoorDash launches an emergency food response delivering 1 million free meals through food banks and waiving fees for 300,000 SNAP recipient grocery orders.
DoorDash went on to say on social media that this is a stop gate, not a solution.
Whatever you want to call it, praise God for them for trying to help
