Detroit Judge Slapped With Lawsuit, Child He Detained Fell Asleep Because She Was Homeless

Detroit Judge Kenneth King told a group of students on a field trip to his courtroom, that he was not a toy and is not to be played with.  So when one of the students fell asleep in his courtroom Judge King decided to give the student a ‘scared straight’ lesson, by placing the student in handcuffs and prison blues.

Judge Kenneth King’s attorney says the Judge King is now “remorseful’, however, Judge King before he decided to give the young lady a scared straight moment should have probably taken her aside to hear her story, because reportedly the teen was tired because she is living in homelessness.  While listening to a hearing about a homicide, 15 year old Eva Goodman reportedly “shut down” due it triggering her own traumatic experiences, prompting her to fall asleep.

Now because Judge King acted as Judge and jury without hearing the teens testimony is reportedly being slapped with a a lawsuit by the teen.

The family, of 15-year-old Eva Goodman, represented by attorney James Harrington has filed a lawsuit, The lawsuit lists many alleged violations of constitutional rights including unreasonable search and seizures, being detained without due process, being compelled to provide evidence against herself, not getting the chance to hire a lawyer of her choosing and protection from “unusual punishment.” They’re asking for more than $75,000 for each of the eight alleged violations.

Judge King has been temporarily removed from his docket and will undergo training. Wayne State University, where King was an adjunct professor, has reassigned his courses and removed his profile from their website.
