We have all heard of people catfishing, people that have a false identities on social media, then try to hook up with someone, although they are not who they say they are nor look like they do on social media. We have all heard of the ugly practice of actors (and others) painting their faces black in an attempt to costume themselves as black. Now we are in the new millennium where people live their lives vicariously through social media and their is a new trend, called ‘Blackfishing’, and celebrities are being called to the carpet for doing it on Twitter.
‘Blackfishing‘ is when white public figures, influencers and the like do everything in their power to appear black, by tanning their skin excessively, wearing hairstyles and clothing trends that have been pioneered by Black women. People such as Kim Kardashian have been accused of ‘Blackfishing’ however the trending topic and celebrity being accused of ‘Blackfishing’ today is Australian rapper, singer, songwriter, Iggy Azalea. Iggy Azalea is receiving Blackfishing, backlash, for her new single, “I Am the Strip Club”, where Azeala seems to have darkened up her skin while rockin a dark wig with all the curves and hips to complete the dip.
Take a look at the video below and give us your thoughts on Blackfishing and is Iggy Azeala doing it. Is you made at Iggy Azalea or nah?

“Instead of appreciating Black culture from the sidelines, there’s this need to own it, to participate in it without wanting the full experience of Blackness and the systemic discrimination that comes with it,” Thompson said. https://t.co/26zak9JADN
