CBS Announces The Cancelling Of “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” Allegedly For Financial Reasons [VIDEO]

Some thought that Stephen Colbert would be able to retire from his staple post at ‘The Late Show” however CBS announced Thursday that “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” will conclude after the upcoming TV season, calling it a “financial decision.”   But inquiring minds are wondering was it that or was it political.

MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough of The “Morning Joe” co-host pointed to the recent settlement CBS’ parent company, Paramount, agreed to with Donald Trump in a lawsuit he filed over a 2024 “60 Minutes” interview with then-Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris. Colbert had denounced the settlement on his show, calling it a “big fat bribe”, then a week later they say “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” will be gone due to financial reasons.

“It’s terrible because you had the settlement with Donald Trump and then you had Colbert and Jon Stewart criticizing that decision, and then a week later, they’re saying, ‘Oh, unfortunately, we don’t have the money to continue this,’”

Stephen Colbert during the Late Show informed his loyal fans of CBS’s decision saying that he was appreciative for his 10 years on the the show.

According to some reports the economics of late-night talk shows are “making less and less sense” for TV networks, none the less the move marks the end of an era in late-night programming that began when CBS brought in David Letterman from NBC in 1993.
