There is a lot going on January 19, 2025. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the inauguration of President Donald Trump and TikTok shutting down in the United States.
Joe Biden said he wasn’t going to worry about TikTok, he was leaving it to the next administration, however The Supreme Court rejected TikTok’s appeal to halt a law that will ban the popular video app as of Jan. 19 unless Chinese parent ByteDance sells its stake.
Supreme Court wrote in its unanimous opinion in the case issued Friday morning:
“There is no doubt that, for more than 170 million Americans, TikTok offers a distinctive and expansive outlet for expression, means of engagement, and source of community,”…“But Congress has determined that divestiture is necessary to address its well-supported national security concerns regarding TikTok’s data collection practices and relationship with a foreign adversary.”
The ruling also puts the spotlight on President-elect Donald Trump, who spoke with CNN’s Pamela Brown after the decision came down.
