Arrest Made Tuskegee’s Deadly 100th Homecoming Celebration Shooting [VIDEO]

A mass shooting early Sunday that marred Tuskegee’s 100th Homecoming Celebration at Tuskegee University in Alabama left one person dead and left 16 others injured, a dozen of them by gunfire, authorities said. One arrest was announced hours later.

Jaquez Myrick, a 25-year-old from Montgomery, was taken into custody after allegedly being found with a handgun equipped with a machine gun conversion device as he attempted to leave the scene. Myrick now faces a federal charge of possession of a machine gun, though he has not been charged with murder in connection to the fatality.

Macon County Sheriff André Brunson said he believes there are multiple suspects.

“If you‘ve seen some of the videos, there was shooting all over the place. So, I think there will be multiple suspects,” he said. “We’re going to deal with it and try to get every last one of them.”

Officials say an 18-year-old was confirmed dead at the scene. Macon County authorities have identified the victim as Latavion Johnson. He was a graduate of Charles Henderson High School in Troy.  Tuskegee City Police Chief Mardis reported that one female student was struck in the stomach, and a male student was shot in the arm. The severity of other injuries has not been disclosed.
