Airman In U.S. Air Force Killed After Deputies Knocked On His Door By Mistake [VIDEO]

23-year-old Senior Airman in the U.S. Air Force, Roger Fortson, on May 3, while on a FaceTime call at his apartment in Fort Walton Beach, he was startled by a knock at the door.  When he answered he was greeted by Deputies that had mistakenly targeted his apartment while responding to a disturbance call in a neighboring unit. After entering Roger Fortson apartment, Deputies shot and killed him.

According to the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office in news release, a deputy responded to a call of a disturbance in progress on the afternoon of Friday, May 3, when they “encountered an armed man,” and the deputy shot the man.

The family of Roger Fortson has retained national civil rights attorney Ben Crump and according to Crump the stories aren’t matching up.

According to Ben Crump the witness who was on a FaceTime call with Fortson at the time of the shooting said that Fortson was alone in his apartment when he heard a knock at his door.  Fortson asked, “Who is it?” and there was no response.  A few minutes later, Fortson heard an “aggressive” knock, but failed to see anyone once he looked out his peephole.  Fortson, concerned for his safety, retrieved his legally owned gun.  As Fortson returned to the living room, the witness said, deputies “burst through his door.” When deputies saw the gun, they fired at Fortson six times.

The deputy in question has been placed on administrative leave pending the results of an investigation from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
