Actor Darius McCrary best known as ‘Eddie Winslow’ on the television show ‘Family Matters’ has found himself in an unlike ‘Family Matters’ way following his arrest at the Mexico border. This isn’t an ICE incident that we have been reading about happening in major cities all over America but what seems to be a child support issue that gets stranger by the minute. It doesn’t even look like Urkel could save him now.
Here’s what we know…
Last week, Darius McCrary was arrested on the U.S. border in San Diego after for a warrant that was out for his arrest, over a $75,000 child support debt in Michigan. McCrary initially chose to represent himself during his first court appearance since his arrest, but the judge ultimately appointed him a public defender when McCrary was asked who he was “specially appearing” for, McCrary responded, “Specially appearing for Darius McCrary. I’m here. I’m here.” according to the judge McCrary “is unable to understand and appreciate the legalities of these proceedings.” Despite this, McCrary still argued for bail, though prosecutors successfully opposed his request.
Prosecutors stated inside the courtroom that Darius McCrary‘s agent allegedly said he was in Tijuana looking at real estate, however, McCrary’s public defender claimed he was there to work with a charity building houses and accidentally crossed into Mexico due to “a mix-up about where to meet his partner for the Esperanza program.
By the end of the hearing, McCrary agreed to be extradited to Michigan, where authorities now have 30 days to retrieve him from San Diego County Jail.
