A family of a 71 year old man says they were told by his Miami nursing home, only to be found dead 12 days later in the nursing homes storage closet.
The family of Elin Etienne reported to news outlets that the 71-year-old was admitted to the nursing center on August 14th as he recovered from a brain aneurysm, scheduled to be at the facility for 12 weeks to undergo rehabilitation and physical therapy. A week later, his family told the outlets that they received a call from a staff member saying that he was missing. The North Miami Police Department issued a “missing vulnerable adult” alert on social media on August 23rd.
The elderly man’s family said on Monday, September 2nd, they were informed about his death.
“A detective came … and said that he was found in a closet, decomposed to the point of no recognition.” “We thought that he went missing, we never expected him to be dead in the nursing home,”
The family reportedly claims North Dade Nursing and Rehab told them that Elin, that had dementia, had allegedly signed himself out.
The local medical examiner removed Etienne’s body and autopsy results are pending. The investigation is ongoing,
