330’s Own Paul Tazewell First Black Man to Win Oscar for Best Costume Design For ‘Wicked’ [VIDEO]

NE Ohio, ‘Wicked”s Paul Tazewell First Black Man to Win Oscar for Best Costume Design

How did Bone Thugs-n-Harmony say it “Cleveland is the city- City that we come from”, and so does other celebrities such as rapper MGK, Drew Carey, Steve Harvey, Yvette Nicole Brown and Halle Berry just to name a few.  However just south of Cleveland, where The House of Three Thirty, is planted, Akron, Ohio isn’t any slouch from producing talent either.  We all know about ‘Just A Kid from Akron’ LeBron James, but the 330 is also the early stomping grounds of Grammy Award winning singers James Ingram and Howard Hewett and NFL Hall of Famer James Harrison just to name a small few.  Akron has many homegrown talents with prestigious awards now they can add Oscar Award winning Paul Tazewell.

Big ups are in order as Northeast Ohio’s own, Paul Tazewell, took home an Oscar last night for the film ‘Wicked, ‘Best Costume Design’ in historic fashion by becoming the first black man to do so in that category.

In his speech, Paul Tazewell acknowledged his historic moment saying:

“I’m the first black man to receive the costume design award…I’m so proud of this.” He went on to thank the U.K team for their “beautiful work.” He also thanked “Wicked’s” leading ladies. He said, “My Ozian muses, Cynthia and Ariana, I love you so much.”
