20yrs After Solo Platinum Debut Album, ‘LeToya’ Dropped, Allegedly It Was Set Up To Flop [VIDEO]

Original/former ‘Destiny’s Child’, LeToya Luckett 20 year ago released her solo album ‘LeToya’ debuted at number-one on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart, and was certified platinum by the RIAA, that same year. The lead single, “Torn”, reached the Top 40 in the U.S.  Oddly enough in a recent interview while talking about the success of ‘LeToya’ it’s revealed that her project was allegedly set up to flop when it dropped.

During a IG livestream, the singer/actress, LeToya Luckett was walked down memory lane to  the behind-the-scenes drama surrounding her exit from Destiny’s Child and releasing her debut solo album. Claims were brought up that someone allegedly called radio stations with a “mandate” not to play LeToya’s music or risk not receiving future records from “this group” (allegedly Destiny’s Child).  I was even said that a music writer took a large sum of money from LeToya Luckett only to back peddle on her, saying he couldn’t work with her.

According to LeToya Luckett, she wasn’t aware of that happening at the time.

LeToya Luckett did not leave Destiny’s Child voluntarily. She was dismissed from the group in early 2000 by management after she and LaTavia Roberson sought new representation due to financial and management disputes involving Mathew Knowles. They famously found out they were replaced when the “Say My Name” video premiered. LeToya Luckett has reconciled with her former bandmates in Destiny’s Child, putting past legal and management conflicts behind them to rebuild a friendly bond.
