Chaka Khan Recalls Telling Mary J Blige She F’d Up ‘Sweet Thing’ While MJB Recalls Being Shade By Another Legend About Being Flat [VIDEO]

One of the greatest things about Mary J. Blige’s music is her ability to musically tell a story while making you feel her in that moment.   Unfortunately not all of her stories ended up on wax but her ability to grow through her learning experiences is heard on wax however those learning experiences were crushing and mean but the also have made her the Queen of R&B.  Recently Chaka Khan recalled the time she told Mary J. Blige that she f****d up her song ‘Sweet Thing’, while Mary J. Blige recalls that another legend telling her that she needed to learn to sing on key.

Many would have let that shade break them, however Mary J. Blige turned her pain from her idols into 9 Grammy Awards and 37 nominations.

Chaka Khan (10 Grammy awards/22 nominations) in an interview shared that she had once told her now dear friend Mary J. Blige that she ‘f****d up her song ‘Sweet Thing’.  In 1975, Sweet Thing was originally recorded by Chaka Khan, however 1992, Mary J. Blige resurrected the classic hit by reintroducing it on her ‘What’s the 411?’ album but according to Chaka, she sang it flat after staying up all night and recording at 8 a.m.

Mary J. Blige on the R&B money podcast then told a story about meeting an artist she idolized for the first time and they told her to dye her roots and that she needed to learn to sing on key.  The critique and interaction by her idol that MJB was excited to meet for the first time, crushed her.  Mary J. Blige didn’t reveal the idols name however the internet sleuths seem to believe it was the Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin (18 Grammy awards/44 nominations.
