Black excellence had one hell of a night last night at the 98th Academy Award at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles, with ‘Sinners’, directed by Ryan Coogler, setting a new record at the 2026 Oscars with 16 nominations, the most in Academy Award history, and the supernatural thriller winning 4 awards:

• Best Actor: Michael B. Jordan
• Best Original Screenplay: Ryan Coogler
• Best Cinematography: Autumn Durald Arkapaw (first woman to win in this category)
• Best Original Score: Ludwig Göransson

So it was only fitting that Miles Caton and Raphael Saadiq delivered a show-stopping performance of their Oscar-nominated song “I Lied To You” from Sinners. The performance, which recreated the film’s “Club Juke” scene, featured a star-studded lineup, including famed ballerina Misty Copeland, and musical guests Shaboozey, Brittany Howard, Alice Smith, and blues titans Buddy Guy, Eric Gales, Christone “Kingfish” Ingram, and Bobby Rush. The performance earned a standing ovation at the Dolby Theatre and was praised for showcasing the history of Black music and dance.
