On February 14, 2018, a mass shooting occurred when 19-year-old Nikolas Cruz opened fire on students and staff at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, in Parkland, Florida, killing 17 people and injuring 18 others. Prayers are in order as it has been reported that just a couple months shy of the 8 year anniversary of the Parkland school shooting, survivor Donovan Joshua Leigh Metayer took his life from the life-long trauma that day caused him at the age of 26 years old.

In an announcement by the family of Donovan Joshua Leigh Metayer via Facebook, Metayer had lived in Coral Springs, Florida and battled schizophrenia for seven years following the trauma of the attack:

“our family’s youngest child is a sorrow beyond words — one that will echo through our lives, forever.” On a GoFundMe page established to help cover funeral expenses and support behavioral health initiatives in Florida, the family wrote, “Yet even in our grief, we are choosing to speak Donovan’s truth, so that other families do not have to suffer in silence the way we have.”   “carried unimaginable sorrow” and struggled with severe mental health challenges, including “depression, guilt, emotional instability, and long periods of isolation [which] replaced the vibrant young man we once knew.”

Lets keep the family of Donovan Joshua Leigh Metayer as well as the other survivors of the Parkland School shooting that are still affected by that tragic day uplifted in our prayers.
