Chicago Judge Under Fire For Setting Serial Offender Free Before He Allegedly Set Woman On Fire On Train [VIDEO]

A Chicago judge is under fire after ignoring a prosecutor’s warning about setting a man free that is now being accused of dousing a woman with gasoline then setting her on fire on a Chicago train.

Lawrence Reed was already facing charges for assaulting a social worker in August. Records show the judge increased the hours he was allowed to leave his home, but the schedule did not include Mondays in which Reed  on Monday night allegedly approached a 26-year-old woman on the train, poured gasoline on her, and set her on fire. Witnesses said he yelled disturbing threats while attacking her. Video shows the victim running through the train trying to escape as flames spread across her body.

According to the Daily Mail, prosecutors told Judge Teresa Molina-Gonzalez that Lawrence Reed had a long criminal history and that his next crime would likely be violent. Despite this warning, the judge allowed him to walk free with an ankle monitor.

The victim suffered life-threatening burns and remains hospitalized in critical condition.

Lawrence Reed will appear in federal court Friday, where a judge will decide if he stays locked up through his trial.
