There are some things that require you to take a drink to reveal, and also some stories that make you want to take one to listen too. Professional female boxer Claressa Shields didn’t take that sip of the complimentary cognac, as a matter of fact she moved the club to the boxing ring when she revealed in a recent episode of Shannon Sharpe’s podcast ‘Club Shay Shay’ that she was sexually assaulted at 5 years old and what’s worse the man threatened to kill her, but living in a world where children are supposed to be quiet about grown folks business dealt with internal confusion about what happened to her until she was a teen.
We are used to taking sides in Boxer Claressa Shields social media sparing matches with Remy Ma and Laila Ali, but to hear Claressa Shields open up about the trauma of being sexually assaulted at 5 years old made everyone wanted to rally around her. It’s one thing that she was sexually assaulted at such a young age but the phycological trauma that was placed on her was heartbreaking to hear when she thought that her mother had picked the man that assaulted her over her.
“I felt that she picked the abuser over me. … I moved with my grandma because he threatened to k*ll me. … Me being able to talk about it is what made me feel like a weight was off my shoulders.”
