Last week a truck hauling “aggressive” rhesus monkeys carrying hepatitis C, herpes and COVID overturned in Mississippi. One of the monkeys that escaped after a truck overturned on a Mississippi roadway on 28 October was shot and killed early on Sunday by a homeowner who said she feared for the safety of her children. The mom, now identified as Jessica Bond Ferguson, is now speaking her truth and sorry she had to put that monkey down.
Jessica Bond Ferguson said her 16-year-old son ran into the house, claiming he had seen one of the animals in the yard. Ms. Ferguson said she jumped out of bed, grabbed her gun and phone, and went outside after calling police. “I shot at it and it just stood there, and I shot again, and he backed up and that’s when he fell.”
Jessica Bond Ferguson, 35 year old, mother of 5, whose children range from 4 to 16, spoke in an interview with TMZ:
“I wish it didn’t have to happen that way. I just wish they took better measures in taking care of it and trying to find them.”…”I feel like if they wanted us to do something else then they should’ve had a search team out,”… “They could’ve had drones flying around. They could’ve took more measures to look for these monkeys and prevented this from happening.” … “I hate that it happened but I’m going to protect my kids at all costs.”
Remember this song, “10 little monkeys jumping on the bed. One fell off and bumped her head, Mama called the doctor and the doctor said, “No more monkeys jumping on the bed!”? Well this is the remix, 21 rhesus monkeys were on the over turned truck, 13 of the monkeys were scooped back up by authorities, 5 monkeys were shot on sight after a supervisor was mistakenly informed the monkeys were infected with COVID, herpes, and hepatitis C, authorities later clarified they weren’t, but 3 monkeys escaped. Of those 3 monkeys on was found and captured by authorities Sunday Ms. Ferguson busted a cap in one leaving 1 monkey that is still out there.
