Memphis Man With History Of Domestic Violence Mistakenly Shoots And Kills His Girlfriend The Mother Of 3 [VIDEO]

We are living in a day and age where we really teeter on accountability.  When something happens the is always a “what had happened was.”  In the case of a man in Memphis, TN who has a history of domestic violence the “what had happened was” ended the life of a mother of 3.

According to WREG, Deangelo Mitchell, 27, has been charged with second-degree murder after shooting his girlfriend, Jyrah Smith, 23, in the head with a shotgun. Police say the incident took place right outside of Mitchell’s apartment door. Mitchell told authorities that he was sleep and grabbed his gun after being woken up by knocking at his door and voices from a man and woman. He says he eventually opened the door after some sort of argument and shot who he claims he believed was a man with dreads. He then threw the gun away and fled the scene, not even attempting the aid the victim.

Family members of Jyrah Smith allege that Mitchell had previously threatened to kill her and her three children ages 1, 3 and 6.

Records show the Deangelo Mitchell has a history of domestic violence.

• In November 2019, he was arrested and charged with assault after he allegedly kicked and punched a woman in the head multiple times.
• In January 2020, he was charged with violating bond agreements in connection with the previous incident. He was allegedly caught banging on his ex-girlfriend’s window.
• He was arrested in August 2024 after he allegedly punched the mother of his child in the face repeatedly while she was working at a hotel.
