The 10 inmates broke out of a New Orleans the jail on May 16. Slow but surly they are being found and re-jailed, however people are being arrested for helping. Not for helping them escape but helping them as fugitives. A grandmother of one of the escapees has been arrested for sending her grandson money while he was on the run.
The grandmother of Jermaine Donald, 59-year-old Connie Weeden, has become the third person arrested for assisting one of the New Orleans jail escapees. Allegedly Grandmother Weeden sent money via a cell phone app after he escaped from jail. Grandmother Weeden, was detained and booked at the Tammany Parish Correctional Center on felony charges of being an accessory after the fact, she faces up to 4 years in prison if convicted.
Jermaine Donald is one of five fugitives still on the run after slipping out through a hole carved behind a toilet at the Orleans Justice Center.
7 people have allegedly helped New Orleans’ escaped inmates, both before and after the brazen breakout.
