Prayers are in order as it is being reported that Eminem’s mother, Debbie Nelson, has passed away at the age of 69 after a battle of advanced lung cancer.
Eminem and his mom, Debbie Nelson relationship wasn’t always the greatest. Early in Slim Shady’s career he publicly accused his mother of being neglectful and abusive, airing their dirty laundry in scathing tracks like “Cleanin’ Out My Closet.” Debbie Nelson then sued Eminem for defamation in 1999, then in 2007 wrote a tell-all memoir, “My Son Marshall, My Son Eminem.” Then in 2013 Eminem in his hit “Headlights” expressed regret over his harsh words and apologized for their strained relationship.
Debbie Nelson at the age of 16, married Eminem’s father, Marshall Bruce Mathers Jr. The two years later, in 1972, Debbie Nelson gave birth to Marshall Bruce Mathers III who go on to be a Grammy award winning rapper who is now inducted into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Let’s keep Eminem as well as his family uplifted in our prayers.
