United States gymnast Jordan Chiles was told she must return her bronze medal that she won 6 days ago at the the Paris Olympics over 4 seconds. Jordan Chiles’ coach, Cecile Landi, originally filed an appeal of Chiles’ score when she believed the judges failed to properly score Chiles’ degree of difficulty. upon review. The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) voided an on-floor appeal by Chiles’ coach that vaulted her to third, saying the appeal came 4 seconds beyond the 1-minute time limit for scoring inquiries.
Then a twist in the story came.
It was reported that USA Gymnastics said Sunday that it has obtained new video evidence showing that Jordan Chiles’ coach, Cecile Landi, submitted the inquiry into her score in the women’s floor exercise final before the one-minute deadline − 47 seconds after her score was announced, to be exact.
Now it’s being reported that on Monday, officials said that the CAS refused to consider the new evidence.
According to a statement:
“USA Gymnastics was notified by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) on Monday that their rules do not allow for an arbitral award to be reconsidered even when conclusive new evidence is presented. We are deeply disappointed by the notification and will continue to pursue every possible avenue and appeal process, including to the Swiss Federal Tribunal, to ensure the just scoring, placement, and medal award for Jordan,”
