Why are people so angry, post pandemic!?
Remember back in the day if you hit your ball into the neighbors back yard, you might not get it back? Well evidently in the year 2023 that scenario might get you killed, especially in a stand your ground state.
A Florida mother named Ajike Owens, also known as “AJ”, was fatally shot by a neighbor when she went to retrieve her children’s tablet that was taken from her children by the neighbor.
According to neighbors Ms. Owens children came and told her that the neighbor had took their tablet and hit them with an object, when she came across the street to retrieve it from her the neighbor shot her from inside the house. At least two of her children witnessed her murder. Sheriffs responding to a trespassing call found Ajike Owens shot.
Recent reports state that there was an ongoing “neighborhood feud” between the shooter and 35 year old Ajike Owens over Owens’ children. Authorities said law enforcement officers had been called out to the area six to eight times.
Ajike Owens was black, her neighbor was white.
Attorney Ben Crump, who represents Owen’s family, shared with NBC Newsthat the neighbor allegedly “began yelling at them to get off her land and calling them racial slurs.”
Authorities have not made any arrests and say that Florida’s “stand your ground” law is a crucial piece of the puzzle in this case. Before an arrest can be made, “he [Marion County Sheriff Billy Woods] needs probable cause.
