Jennifer Lopez was asked to perform a tribute to Motown at the 61st annual Grammy Awards show Sunday night but not everybody was happy about a non-African American doing it. People took to social media to voice their displeasure and even gave their suggestions on who should have done it (Ciara, Beyonce’, Janet Jackson, etc etc).
But somebody had J Lo’s back, a person who helped build Motown from the very beginnings.
Smokey Robinson in a video, voiced his displeasure about what people had to say about Jennifer Lopez Motown Grammy tribute representation. and he was outraged that people are using race as a reasoning when the music of Motown is what broke down race barrier walls. Smokey felt that the people that had an argument about Jennifer Lopez have a “stupid philosophy.”
If Smokey Robinson of all people and Berry Gordy who was sitting in the front row didn’t, should others have had a problem with it?
Take a listen to what Smokey Robinson had to say below.
